Here at Apprenticemakers we have developed a suite of training courses for businesses, training organisations, champions and business support professionals which build apprenticeships knowledge, championing skills, interpersonal skills and an understanding of the pressures facing small businesses to create the perfect support structure for their apprentices.
Developing Mentoring Skills To Support Apprentices
This one day workshop provides an introduction to mentoring for those taking on a mentoring role to support apprentices. It is an interactive and thought- provoking session that develops an individual’s skills and abilities in order to become a successful apprentice mentor. The workshop also supports individuals looking to develop their wider people management skills.
Who is it for?
This course is for individuals who will have an active part to play in supporting apprentices. This course has been designed for:
- Anyone that has a mentoring role to support one or more apprentice.
- Business owners and directors that aim to draw on individuals mentoring skills to support their apprentices and other employees.
- HR professionals that are implementing mentoring schemes in their business and want to explore how mentoring can provide welcomed support for apprentices.
- Line managers and team leaders that aim to draw on mentoring skills when supporting apprentices with their developmental requirements.
- Existing or ex-apprentices that are peer mentors for new apprentices.
Learner Outcomes
By the end of the workshop delegates will be able to:
- Understand the mentoring role, the key skills and abilities required.
- Reflect on their skills, abilities and experiences and how these can be applied to their mentoring role.
- Understand core mentoring skills, including building trust and rapport, developing listening and questioning skills.
- Plan mentoring meetings to build successful relationships with their mentee’s.
- Recognise issues in the mentoring relationship and understand how to address them.
- Develop a Continuous Development Plan to support their mentoring role.
Workshop Format
The learning objectives are achieved through a mixture of taught sessions, practical activities and discussions. The varied teaching approach helps delegates truly understand the skills and abilities being taught by underpinning learning with role play and discussion activities. The learning is supported throughout with a detailed workbook which also provides an opportunity for the delegates to take notes at key points. The mentors take this workbook away for future reference. The workshop is best suited to a maximum of 14 learners.
All learners get also receive access to a ‘refresher’ version of the online module for later reference.
Location
We do not currently hold ‘open’ courses but are able to travel to your organisation to run workshops for 10-14 delegates. We find that it is most beneficial when a group of prospective mentors from the same company attend. This allows us to incorporate aspects of your specific approach to apprenticeships and support.
The Apprenticemakers Champion
This one day Certificated workshop has been designed to train a cohort of champions with the knowledge and skills that will help them effectively support apprenticeships uptake amongst businesses in their region and sector.
Who is it for?
This course is for people who are keen to increase their knowledge of apprenticeships and their skills and abilities when championing a business related activity. It is relevant for:
- Business owners supportive of apprenticeships based on their own positive experiences
- Professionals in all businesses looking for additional knowledge and skills to support their supply chain
- Business support professionals such as mentors, coaches and business advisors that want to add apprenticeships to their knowledge base
- Business people that have regular contact with small businesses such as accountants, bank managers and trade association professionals who want to add apprenticeships knowledge to the support they give businesses
- Apprenticeship Ambassadors considering how to build their knowledge and skills to support their Ambassadorial role.
Learner Outcomes
By the end of the workshop delegates will be able to:
- Understand the role of an Apprenticemakers Champion and the skills and behaviours an effective champion needs
- Explain how apprenticeships are structured and funded and the upcoming changes in the apprenticeships landscape
- Understand the role of a training provider and how businesses can best select the right provider for their needs
- Understand the benefits of apprenticeships and how they can be communicated to different audiences
- Identify ways to put the Apprenticemakers Champion role into practice
- Evaluate their learning and have a CPD plan to take away
- Have an action plan to take away and use in their role as an Apprenticemakers Champion.
